STAND Research Projects

STAND Foundation hereby calls for applications from individuals to conduct research into three separate areas:

  1. A list of all the formal theatres, performance spaces and community-based infrastructure where dance and theatre performances and rehearsals may take place, in every province (the name of the space, physical address, contact person, rental rates, who owns it, etc).  The aim is to provide the dance and theatre ecosystem with updated information about existing infrastructure to support the creation, production and distribution of dance and theatre performances.
  1. The remuneration rates and royalties for theatre-makers (directors, actors, playwrights, designers, stage managers, etc) and dance-makers (choreographers, dancers, designers, technical crew, etc) across the country (reflecting the different rates per province if relevant), for ad hoc performances, full-time members of companies, different festivals, etc.
  1. Compiling the research that has been done over the last 26 years into social benefits (medical care, unemployment insurance, tax regimes, etc),  for artists, and for dance and theatre makers in particular, into the reasons for their non-implementation, as well as 4-7 international case studies relating how other countries are dealing with such benefits.
  1. Interested parties should submit a letter of application indicating which of the three themes they would like to research, the proposed time framework for conducting such research, a proposed budget for the research and a CV that reflects their experience in conducting research to mike@standfoundation.org.za by 17:00 Wednesday 14 October 2020.
